DECADES OF INSTITUTIONAL & PRIVATE INVESTMENT EXPERIENCE
Meet Hunter Lewis
CHIEF INVESTMENT OFFICER
Hunter Lewis is best known as one of two co-founders and former CEO of Cambridge Associates LLC, an investment firm that has advised research universities and colleges representing over three-quarters of U.S. higher education endowment assets, foundations, cultural organizations, international organizations and other non-profit institutions, as well as high net worth families. Cambridge Associates is now a global firm with offices and clients around the world and $2.6 trillion in assets under advisement as of 2018, the year Lewis left. He created Hunter Lewis LLC to provide clients of all asset sizes access to elite investment services.
Pioneering Institutional Change
CO-FOUNDER OF THE UNIVERSITY INVESTMENT MODEL
As a co-founder of Cambridge Associates, Hunter co-created (along with colleagues and clients) what became known as the university investment model. For many years, this gave university endowment funds some of the highest investment returns in the world among institutional investors, which was soon noticed and emulated, particularly in its use of what came to be called alternative investments. More recently Hunter described the university investment model in the Financial Times as “outdated.”

*No performance based criteria were used in construction of the list. It is not known if the listed clients approve or disapprove of the adviser or the advisery services provided. The list has been constructed to include clients with whom Hunter personally worked. It does not include numerous Cambridge clients whose Cambridge advisers were supervised by Hunter. It does not include clients who or which expressed at the time a preference to Hunter to remain anonymous, including families, trusts, and others. Any other omission is inadvertent.
Launching Hunter Lewis LLC
We were originally established to assist the family office in guiding the investments of Hunter Lewis, his family, and related entities. We began to welcome outside clients, both private and institutional, into our extended family in order to share the services that we carefully developed. We are committed to protecting and growing client assets along with our own.
About Our Family
The Lewis Family has other missions unrelated to Hunter Lewis LLC. These include the following:
Environmental Protection
Hunter Lewis over the years chaired or served on the board of several national environmental organizations. For example, he served as long time Treasurer of the World Wildlife Fund and was a member of the World Wildlife Fund International board. Today our family or the Hunter Lewis Foundation supports a variety of organizations working around the world to protect the environment.
Regenerative Health
The Lewis Family promotes regenerative health in a variety of ways. We define regenerative health as creating health and extending life through a combination of high tech testing, nutrition, and lifestyle. The family has supported this area both directly and through The Hunter Lewis Foundation.
Regenerative Agriculture
The Lewis Family operates a 6,200 acre regenerative farm in Alabama. Through The Hunter Lewis Foundation, the Lewis Family also supports other related regenerative and organic projects.
Affordable College Degrees
The family also operates a website, Provendos, which provides reliable information on the cost and availability of on-line college degrees along with strategies such as combining community college associate degrees with online college degrees. High school students receive marketing pitches from both for-profit and non-profit institutions which do not always offer students the best programs at the most reasonable cost.
Other Interests
Hunter Lewis or the Hunter Lewis Foundation has also supported educating foster children, rural development in Alabama, social services in Alabama and Virginia, classical education, economic education, moral philosophy, museums, global development, and the performing arts.
Hunter Lewis’s eleven books have focused on rethinking economics or moral philosophy.
